Owl City

Okay, all of my post titles are really lame. No ingenuity whatsoever. I'll have to work on that. Anyway...

Has anyone heard of Owl City/Adam Young? He's a guy from a just an hour south of where I live. As the story goes, he started making music on the computer in his parents' basement in the middle of the night as a result of insomnia. Some of my friends really liked him and so I thought I'd look him up. I really liked what I heard, and Amazon was selling his new cd (a download, like iTunes for people like me that don't have real iPods) for $6, so I bought it. I LOVE IT! The songs are super sweet and happy. You have to come over so I can play them for you. Well, I guess you might not like it unless you are like me and don't mind a little cheesiness for the sake of utter sweetness and cuteness! I listen to it while I do Algebra 2 and my lit. study guides. The songs make me so happy. Even my mom likes him!

And on top of all of that awesomeness...he's a Christian! I don't have a twitter account, but I saw on his website a tweet that was talking about glorifying Christ Jesus. Actually, he's been to my church and he really likes my pastor. Well, our church is split into three campuses, so he's been to the southern-most one, but it still counts, right? :)

So, now I'm jealous of my friends who first told me about him because they are going to one of his concerts in May. How cool is that?!?!

Anyway, you should listen to him and let me know what you think! And if you've already been exposed to this happiness, tell me your favorite songs. My favorite by far is Vanilla Twilight. So. Stinkin'. Sweet.

Has he written a song called Butterfly? I think I may have heard of him, but I've only heard that song and I don't really remember it. Can you put the CD on your mp3 player so we can listen to it, if you come next week?

Whoaaaa. He's a Christian?! I totally didn't know that! But I'm kind of obsessed (don't have the CD--or own the music, because I really can't afford it, but I like his music a lot) with his stuff. I looove the music video (and the song) for Fireflies.

Wow. I didn't know he lived in MN, either! That's crazy. O_o

I already did Gracie!!! I think you'll love Vanilla Twilight. It's very, very, cute and sweet. I think maybe the song that you are thinking of is "Fireflies". It's his most famous one and it was number one on iTunes at one point (I think). Oh, my mom wanted me to tell you that on our end it is 100% go forward on the sleepover at this point. So, basically the only reason I wouldn't come would be if you guys weren't up to it (with Lyd's knee and everything we didn't want to force you at all). Guess what's playing on the radio? "I'm Waiting" (or, maybe that's not the name of the song, but the one from Fireproof :) Makes me think of you ;) I love you!

Gina! Yes! He's a Christian! Don't you love his music? It's sooo happy. I remember reading one review say that "this is what a smile sounds like". Kind of cheesy but kind of true. I don't quite get the point of Fireflies but I have to listen to it a few more times and maybe look up the lyrics. :p

Katie, I'm a fan too! I've only heard "Fireflies" on the radio - I played it for Scott later and he didn't really understand why I liked it so much. :) But I totally understand why you like it! It's so happy and fun.

I think I like Fireflies because it doesn't make sense. It's just dreamlike and makes me inspired. XD

Well...I just bought the album Ocean Eyes from iTunes! It's downloading as I write. We'll have to be super-cool teenagers and put on our earbuds and listen to Owl City on our mp3 players when you're here next week. We could even bring them to the theater and mill around, pretending to be ignoring everyone else. :P We could even slouch on that bench by the bathrooms and hurt our backs being 'cool.'

LOVE YOU!!!

My favorite is Fireflies. I was a tad but disappointed with his cd...none of the other songs were as good as Fireflies. But, I do LOVE that song!

Haha so Katie after reading your posts and seeing that you got his album for 6 bucks, I HAD to buy it too. I love it so much! I may be sick of it in a few weeks, but for now it's really cute. I like that the songs usually have nothing to do with real life...they are kind of a fun escape. I think one of my favorites is Saltwater Room.
